Another meeting is scheduled for 5 p.m. this Tuesday at the local union office 4063, 6511 W. Bluemound Road. We'll be meeting with union reps and Journal union members.
We are exercising our rights, guaranteed by the National Labor Relations Act, to organize a Community Newspapers unit of the Milwaukee Newspaper Guild.
The mission of CNI brings meaning to our daily work by allowing us to present information in a timely manner through a variety of media – print, online and broadcast. We operate under the “Higher Standard” model, which means we search for ways to connect people and ideas locally. We take national issues and bring it home. We show how the community celebrates their successes and show how they mourn tragedies. We dig into political issues. We help shed light on the things that touch community members daily. And we consistently win awards.
By organizing, we hope to create a more harmonious and healthy environment within CNI, both between management and workers, and amongst ourselves. We will accomplish this goal by forming and joining a guild, which is every worker’s right under law.
CNI was created to promote that “Higher Standard” of journalism by offering our audience a time and a place to listen and to be heard. Therefore, we believe the CNI management is committed to advocating for a “Higher Standard” for workers’ rights.
With Guild representation, we can negotiate a legally binding contract with the management. The contract can include, but is not limited to the following:
• Job Security
• Fairness
• Competitive wages and benefits
• A channel to address employees’ grievances
In simpler words, the union will be able to look after the
welfare of the employees through collective bargaining power.
Under the American freedom and rule of law, and with the help of The Newspaper Guild-Communication Workers of America (TNG-CWA), we can create a better future for the employees of CNI and CNI as a whole.
